SERVICE

Since its inception in 1987, Kappa Delta Chi has made a commitment to serving our chapters' respective universities, and the surrounding minority communities, with special emphasis on the Latino population. Our Founders recognized the need to correct the educational, economic, and social injustices faced by the Latino community. They instilled a sense of servitude in this sorority and strongly believed that as educated Latinas, we have a responsibility to help those who are in need.

We accomplish this through various activities such as hands-on work in our communities; supporting existing philanthropies; conducting mentoring and tutoring programs with local schools; conducting leadership development workshops; fundraising for worthy causes; and conducting community service training for young women.

The Pi Chapter, here at the University of Texas at Austin, has had the opportunity and support to conduct it's own projects.  In the Fall semester, our Latino Faculty/Staff and Student Mixer takes place.  Initiated in Fall 1999, this has increased the interaction between the two groups.  The program usually includes a keynote speaker who addresses a current event affecting the Latino population.  This is then followed by group discussion and interaction of the attendees.  Both the faculty/staff and students who attend have provided positive feedback on this event.

Some of the causes that Kappa Delta Chi supports and serves are as follows:

ACADEMICS

Kappa Delta Chi believes that the education of its members is the key to its success. Never does a sister have to choose between her studies and the sorority. The sorority provides access to a variety of scholastic tools that will ensure that its members have a successful college career. Some of these services are study sessions, tutoring, workshops, test files, and study skill sessions.

Official Study Hours are held at the PCL on the 4th floor from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

To contact our current Academics Chair please email Bridget Garcia at kdxpi_academics@yahoo.com for more information.

We recognize members for their academic achievement at the end of the semester.  Awards are given for the member with the most improved GPA and the highest GPA.

Social

While Kappa Delta Chi is strongly centered on serving our community, we still make the time to just sit back, relax, and have some fun. Every semester our social committee organizes at least two mixers with other organizations, which includes both Greeks and non-Greek groups. We have gone skating and bowling, have had bar-b-ques, gone to Austin Park and Pizza (a mini amusement park), and this is just to name a few. At least twice a semester Pi chapter hosts club parties to help everyone unwind at the end of a busy week. As a sisterhood we have a lot of fun and make it a point to try to become acquainted with other organizations on campus. KDChis know how to have a good time.
